Roy Munger, a resident of Mobile, Alabama passed away on Wednesday, March 11, 2020 at the age of 94. He was born in Newbern, Alabama on March 24, 1925 to C F E and Patti Irene Munger. Roy served in the United States Navy during World War II on the aircraft carrier USS Shangri-La. After his service he followed his father’s footsteps and worked for Southern Railroad and later for Coggin Timber Company. During this time he proudly served on the site selection committee for Mobile College, now known as the University of Mobile. He then became an agent for Allstate Insurance Company for 37 years until his retirement in 1999. An active deacon at Toulminville Baptist Church and later at Woodmont Baptist Church for a total of 55 years, he and his wife Meron taught young adults in Sunday School for 35 of those years. During his years at these places Roy was actively serving on district boards and as Deacon Chairman, Sunday School and Church Training Director at various times. Roy has been a member at Spring Hill Baptist Church since 2004. Known as being generous with his resources of time and money, Roy was also known for his sense of humor. Roy was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Martha Baird and Sarah Young, and two brothers, Robert Grantham and Frank Munger. He leaves here his cherished wife of 71 years Dorothy Meron Munger; sons Robert Paul Munger (Kay) and Roy Alan Munger (Cynthia); daughters Sharon Ann Adams (Billy), Joan Marie Glisson (Bill), and Elizabeth Kay Walker (Bobby); 13 grandchildren, and 24 great-grandchildren; all who loved him dearly. Visitation will be held on Monday, March 16, 2020 at Spring Hill Baptist Church, 2 South McGregor Avenue in Mobile, beginning from 9:00 AM until the 11:00 service. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Mobile Baptist Children’s Home or Spring Hill Baptist Foundation.

A church service will be held at 11am on Monday, 03/16/2020 from Spring Hill Baptist Church, followed by a committal service at the grave site.
