Sara Louise Givens - Mobile Memorial Gardens

Sara Louise Givens

May 11, 1957 - May 19, 2022
Sara DuMont Givens, age 65, born May 11, 1957 and passed May 19, 2022, was a beloved wife and treasured mother who loved and generously served her family and her Lord Jesus. She fell asleep peacefully at home in Mobile, Alabama. Sara is preceded in death by her father, Rev. Herbert DuMont; mother, Anne DuMont; and father-in-law, Archie Givens. She was born in Rochester, New York as the youngest child of her parents. She attended grade school in Chicago, Illinois; graduated college at Wheaton College with a dual degree in education and French language; and later received a Master of Education Media degree with a certification in Library Media from the University of South Alabama. She taught school in Petion-Ville, Haiti, where she met her husband to be, Jeff Givens. They were married in 1981 and had three children, Rebecca, Jennifer, and Joshua. Together they lived and served as long term missionaries in Haiti for ten years, then moved to Mobile, Alabama in 1987. They continued to work in Christian outreach ministry with the Tribe of Judah, and were founding pastors of the Outpost Church in Irvington, Alabama. She also worked as a librarian and educator at Faith Academy in Mobile, Alabama, and the Mobile County Public School System. Sara was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2004 and went into remission in 2007; she was re-diagnosed in 2018. She experienced a medical miracle and was pain free in the last months. Sara is survived by her husband of 41 years, Rev. Jeffery Givens; three children and their spouses, Rev. Mike and Dr. Rebecca Workman, Daniel and Jennifer Nichols, and Joshua and Amy Givens; grandchildren, Eleanor, Luke, Kingsley, Wellington, Bethany, and Vera; siblings, David DuMont, John DuMont, and Lisa Nelson; nieces, nephews, and many other beloved family members and friends. Her children call her blessed, her husband also, and he praises her. We pray, Jesus come, so we may all be reunited. Charm is deceitful and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord, she shall be praised. -Proverbs 31:30
