It is with great sorrow we announce the passing of our beloved Scarlett.
Scarlett Mai Ku'ulei Castanares passed away on November 16, 2021 after a 9 month battle with osteosarcoma.
Born to Kekoa Castanares and Cecilia Tran in Honolulu on May 9, 2017. Scarlett was a sweet and beautiful girl who was very considerate of others and loved by many during her all too brief time with us. Some of her loves were dancing, swimming, and karate. She enjoyed a variety of foods including fried chicken, spam musubi reflecting her Hawaiian heritage, and red noodle soup (Bún Riêu) reflecting her Vietnamese heritage.
Scarlett had a remarkable joy of life and a bright spirit that she never lost, despite all the daunting challenges she faced. In her last days with us, she enjoyed time with her parents and grandparents; visits from Uncle Jimmy Aunt Jessica, Uncle Lyle, and several great aunts, great uncles, and cousins; and some very special time with her first cousin Lyla.
Scarlett is survived by her parents Kekoa and Cecilia; her grandparents Scott and Karla Castanares of Wahiawa, Hawaii and Hugh Tran and Ha Nguyen of Mobile, Alabama; her great grandmothers Kayleen Esperas of Hawaii and Yen Bui of Virginia; 21 great-aunts and great-uncles; aunts and uncles Lyle and Torie Castanares, Levi and Mel Castanares, Landen Castanares, and Jimmy Tran and Jessica Autry; and first cousins Lyla, Logan, Luca, and Luke Castanares and Zeola Tran.
