Sherrye Ann Nichols

February 1, 1953 ~ July 5, 2022 (age 69)
Sherrye Ann Nichols of Mobile, Alabama passed away peacefully at Atmore Nursing Center on Tuesday, July 5th, 2022, at 12:56 pm with her sister and brother-in-law, Sandy, and Jimmy Snow by her bedside. The cause of death was early-onset Alzheimer's. Sherrye was born on the 1st of February 1953 in Mobile, Alabama, and she remained a resident all her life. She spent the 1950s in highland Terrace off Dauphin Island Parkway before moving with her family to Canal Circle East in Cypress Shores where she spent her formative years attending Woodcock and Griggs Elementary schools. In 1965, she attended Theodore Junior and later, Senior High Schools, graduating a proud Bobcat, Class of 1971. Sherrye soon began her working career as an office assistant, copy clerk, and occasionally a reporter with the Mobile Press Register before switching to field work for the Dupont Chemical Corporation in Axis, Alabama. She retired from DuPont in 2006, finishing her career as the Computer Access Security Manager for the Mobile plant. Sherrye grew up with two siblings and 11 cousins, including Sullivans, McMichaels and Fowlers. In this, she was most fortunate to enjoy the benefits of a large and close extended family. She was an avid reader and would often finish a novel in a single day. She was always a person with an easy smile and gentle nature, and her voice held a natural grace. In addition to her sister and brother-in-law, she is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law Stephen D. Nichols and Sandra Kowadla Nichols; her nephew Brad and his wife and children Kristi, Jessa, and Judson Snow; her niece, Jessica and children Emma and James Williams; along with her other niece and nephew Major Alexandra Nichols, Jr., and Elizabeth Fowler Nichols. She was a wonderful and most beloved sister to her younger brother and sister, and she will be most sorely missed. Rest in peace dearest Sherrye.

Condolences For
"Sherrye Ann Nichols"

  1. Sorry to hear this. I did not know her well, but remember her as helpful, cheerful and encouraging in those my early days at MPR...

  2. I am SO sorry to hear of Sherrye's passing! We were best friends in high school, and although we lost touch in later years, I've thought of her often. I recently lost my sister to Alzheimer's and know what a difficult journey it can be. Sherrye was so fortunate to have such a loving family. I'm holding you all in my heart. My sincere condolences. Beth

  3. Sherrye was such a sweet person! I haven’t seen her in years, and I hate to hear this! Praying for her family in the days to come.

  4. I’m so sorry to hear Sherrye passed away. Alzheimer’s is such a terrible disease. I remember how kind Sherrye was in high school, and that beautiful red hair! Steve, you and the rest of the family are in my prayers. Shannon
