William Henry Shields, Sr. “Billy” went to be with his Lord and Savior on May 7, 2019. He was born in Slocomb, Alabama on July 24, 1943 and was a longtime resident of Mobile County.
Billy was a dedicated employee at the Alabama State Docks until he retired. He was an outstanding athlete and enjoyed lifting weights, playing competitive softball, hunting, and working on his land in his free time. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great- grandfather. He will be remembered most for his deep, humble passion for Jesus.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lex Clydus Shields and Kate Lucy Holland Gildea; and sister Mary Ann Shields Villar.
Billy is survived by his loving wife of almost 35 years, Julia Norris Shields. Other survivors include his sister, Deborah Carol Shields; stepmother, Eutha Osteen Scott; his stepbrother, Michael (Vivian) Bradford; his son, William Lex Shields; son, William Henry (Gail) Shields, Jr.; daughter Kimyla Shields (Ronnie) Russell; and stepdaughter, Sandra Smith (Waseem) Akhtar; grandchildren, Brent Moran, Zoe Shields, Lex Shields, Markella Shields, Henry (Lauren) Shields, Amber Shields, Tyler Russell, Cole Russell, Callie Russell, and Aryaan Akhtar; great-grandchildren, MacKenzie Shields, James Shields and Elijah Martin; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 11, 2019 at 10:00 AM at the chapel of Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Saturday morning from 9:00 AM until service time. Burial will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be his stepbrother and grandsons.
A chapel service will be held at 10am on Saturday, 05/11/2019 from Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, followed by a committal service at the grave site.
