Sonja Cockrell Thompson, 83, passed away peacefully on October 6, 2022, in Mobile, AL to go home to be with her Lord and Savior. Born May 4, 1939, in Russellville, Alabama, Sonja was blessed with a loving family. She attended Murphy High School where she was a member of the Phi Gamma Chi Sorority where she created lifelong friends. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She loved spending time outdoors, being at the beach, and always being surrounded by those she loved. Sonja was a loyal member of Christ United Methodist Church in Mobile, AL. She was known for her vivacious and loving personality, along with serving her Lord faithfully. Sonja was preceded in death by her husband Donald Thompson. She was also preceded in death by her parents, father Willis Cockrell (Bill), mother Una Ward Fuller, stepfather James Fuller, and son Leslie Lee Thompson. Those left to cherish her memory include her brother Steve (Marie) Cockrell; son Donald (Erica) Thompson; daughter Tonya (Robby) McGuff; nephew Stephen Cockrell; niece Stephanie Cockrell; her grandchildren Todd McGuff, Justin McGuff, Katelyn (Will) Dean, Donald (Kristian) Thompson II, Elizabeth Bryant, and Matthew (Jenny) Thompson; her great-grandchildren Elizabeth McGuff, Kayli McGuff , Bralyn Durham, Bryson Durham, Hudson Bryant, Grayson Rivers, Charlotte Thompson, Adleigh Thompson and Chloe Dean, along with many other close relatives; lifelong friends, Carolyn (Bud) Ford, and Joyce Salter; and a very special friend, Jerry Pope.

Sonja's funeral services will be held on Friday, October 14, 2022, at Mobile Memorial Gardens, beginning with a viewing service at 1pm, a chapel service at 2pm, and a graveside prayer immediately following.
