Stella Joan Lee went to be with the Lord on January 12, 2023, at the age of 92 in Mobile, Alabama. She was born on March 21, 1930, in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. She is preceded in death by her husband Walter Maxwell Lee, Jr., her parents, William D. Trussell, Sr. and Lenore Fortson Trussell, brother William D. "Bill" Trussell Jr., sister Muriel Edwina "Penny" Brown. She is survived by her three children, Thomas David Lee (Anne) of Roswell, Georgia, Lenore Dianne Koonce of Keller, Texas, and Walter Maxwell "Max" Lee III (Sue) of Mobile, Alabama, four grandchildren, Matthew Lee (Leanne) of Falls Church, Virginia, Laurel Johnson (Will) of Beaufort, South Carolina, and Jonathan Lee (Kamin) of Toronto, Ontario, Canada and Catherine Koonce of Atlanta, Georgia. And eight great-grandchildren. She was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother. Her influence will be missed by all the family.
Joan and her family lived in Hattiesburg, Mississippi until 1965. The family then moved to Laurel, Mississippi and lived there for several years. They then moved back to Hattiesburg where she and her husband Walter Lee lived until 2007 when they moved to Mobile, Alabama.
She was a long-time member of Main Street Baptist Church in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, and served in many capacities at the church. Since moving to Mobile, Alabama, she was member of Springhill Baptist Church. She loved flowers and was active in the Hattiesburg Garden Club, the Belle Fontaine Garden Club, and the Fowl River Women's Club for many years.
Joan worked in retail in several capacities. She worked for Huber's Fine Fabrics in Hattiesburg, Mississippi and moved to Laurel, Mississippi to manage the new store Huber's opened there. She also worked for furniture stores in Laurel, Mississippi and Hattiesburg, Mississippi.
