Tommie B. Hicks, 77, of Saraland, Alabama, went home on Friday, December 16, 2016. He was surrounded by family. Born in Excel, Alabama to Douglas Barney and Delia Phillips Hicks on February 12, 1939. He has resided the last 43 years in Saraland, Alabama. Tommie was extremely proud of his family, his wife and best friend, Linda (Cassady) Hicks of 50 years, his daughters Angela Guy and Carmon (Tony) Nitteberg and one son, Billy (Brooke) Cassady. His grandchildren Cole, Connor, Cassady, Jakeleigh and Kylan, a special nephew, Ronnie Williams; as well as nieces, nephews, and many other relatives and friends. Tommie was a loving father, grandfather, and friend to all. Tommie was a passionate deer hunter who loved spending time with his hunting buddies and friends in Little River. He opened his own insurance agency in 1979 in Saraland and spent his remaining years serving the city he loved. As our beloved Santa at the annual Saraland Christmas Parade, he was also known for his leadership. The city honored him with a proclamation citing September 22, 2016 as “Tommie Hicks” Day in Saraland. He had also been recognized as Saraland Citizen of the Year 2002 , and was inducted into the Saraland Girls’ Softball Hall of Fame in the late 90’s. He currently served as president of the Parks and Recreation Board. He had served as president of the Chamber, Optimist Club, Saraland Girls’ Softball, T-Ball for Saraland Dixie Youth. He served on the Board of Directors at the Cleveland House and coached his children and grandchildren the last 43 years in softball, baseball, basketball, and soccer. The family will receive friends at Radney Funeral Home, Saraland, AL on Monday, December 19, 2016 from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Funeral services will begin at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.
