William Henry Macon - A native and lifelong resident of Mobile, AL died Wednesday, October 20, 2021 at a local hospital. He was 67. A third-generation pharmacist, Henry had worked at USA Medical Center and the Mitchell Cancer Institute for decades. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul Vernon Macon and Eva Roberts Macon. His survivors include Celia Collins Macon, his wife of thirty-seven years; three daughters, Colleen Macon Dicks (Joey), Caitlin Macon Craig (Tyler), and Cara Macon; grandchildren, Virginia Dicks, Charles Henry Dicks and Amelia Craig; one brother, Paul Vernon Macon Jr. (Debbie); two sisters, Caroline Montalban (Michael) and Sarah Clarke (Daniel); a sister-in-law, Kathleen Borowitz (Stephen); a brother-in-law, Bryan Collins (Jennifer); and many nieces, nephews and cousins. A 1973 graduate of Murphy High School, Henry attended Auburn University where he received a degree in Agricultural Science in 1978 and a Bachelor of Pharmacy from Auburn’s Harrison School of Pharmacy in 1983. He returned to Mobile and worked as a licensed pharmacist. Henry spent the bulk of his career at the University of South Alabama, working there until his retirement in 2008. He continued to work part time at Option Care Health. Henry was certified as a Specialty Infusion Pharmacist and took part in many local research projects. Known for his kindness and knowledge, he was trusted by patients, coworkers and physicians. Henry adored his family. His love and pride for Celia, their daughters and grandchildren, was reflected in the many stories he told about them. For instance, he would lovingly tease his attorney wife about having been the “primary care giver” for their daughters. Henry loved his brother, sisters, their spouses and children, and many close friends, several of whom he had known since childhood. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and had many tales to tell about his time in the outdoors. He especially loved spending time with family and friends and participating in Mardi Gras celebrations with them. Henry was a legendary storyteller with a presentation that was uniquely his. He could turn the recounting of even the most ordinary event into high drama or hysterical comedy. His interests were wide-ranging and this was evident in the broad range of topics he liked to talk about. At any gathering, he was sure to have an audience enthralled by one of his tales. His energetic and fun-loving spirt will be missed, but his stories are sure to live on.
