Dorothy Taylor Coker, age 88, a native of Jackson, AL and a resident of Semmes, AL, passed away at home on September 9, 2019. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Arthur and Ruby Pearl Brown Taylor; her brother, Ralph Taylor; her sister, Jewel Miller; her daughter, Dorothy Elaine Fillingim, and her husband of 63 years, James William Coker. She is survived by one son, James Allen (Judy) Coker, Sr. of Mobile, two daughters, Reneé (Mack) McInnis of Semmes, and Jana Lynn (Shawn) Bennett of Turnerville; her sister-in-law, Rebecca Thomas of Minden, LA’ one sister, Gladys Wint of Eight Mile; one brother, AC (Glenda) Taylor of Jackson, AL; nine grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; close friends, Tommy and Shirley Dortch, as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Dorothy worked at Terminal Paper Company, Borden’s Dairy, TG&Y Stores, and Delchamps, where she retired with 20 years of service in 1988. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed working puzzles, watching old shows on late night television, and she took great pride in caring for her garden every year. Pallbearers will be Johnathan Bennett, Mack McInnis, Jamie Montgomery, Joe McGill, Gavin and Alicia Buzbee. Funeral Services will be held from the chapel of Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home on Thursday, September 12, 2019 at 12 noon with visitation from 10 to 12. Interment will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens.
A chapel service will be held at 12pm on Thursday, 09/12/2019 from Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, followed by a committal service at the grave site.
