Gene Hightower, age 81, passed away in Spanish Fort, AL on May 17, 2026. He was born in Mobile, AL on June 24, 1944 to Ernest and Annie Hightower. Mr. Hightower enjoyed a successful career with the railroad before retiring in 2004. He was a longtime member of Jubilee Baptist Church, where he found great joy in playing and listening to Southern gospel and bluegrass music. Among their favorite destinations were the Great Smoky Mountains, Alaska, and many other beautiful places that reflected their shared love of adventure, laughter, and life together. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ferrolyn Hightower, and son, Wallace E. Hightower, Jr. Left to cherish his memory are his children, Anna (Terry) Thompson and Travis (Crystal) Hightower; granddaughter, Tarah (Ryan) Pruitt; sister, Margie McAtee; niece, Kim McAtee; other relatives and many friends.

Condolences For "Gene Hightower"
Mr. Gene and I were neighbors for several years. I got to know him better and had many conversations after his sweet wife passed. He missed her very much and spoke of her everytime I visited. My heart breaks for the family, but I know he’s reunited with her now and that gives me peace. To Anna and Travis and your families- He was a good man and proud of you both. He spoke of you both often as well. I am a better person having known him (both of them). My thoughts and prayers are with you all. Love, Kristi
