James Bryant Bishop passed away at his home Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at the age of 86. Jim was a US Navy veteran; a retired Captain of the Mobile Fire Department, was a member of Woodridge Baptist Church and taught Sunday school at Crown Assisted Living facility for seven years. He served God Faithfully as a deacon in several churches. He loved God, his family, his church and his country. He was an active member of the Gideons International from 1979 until his death. He was devoted to telling people about Jesus. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Bryant K. Bishop and Ethel Newell Bishop; his brothers, Archie Bishop, Ronnie Bishop, Ellis Bishop and George Bishop, and his sister, Shirley Bishop. His survivors include his wife of 63 years, Mary “Libbie” Bishop; his daughter, Cynthia Denise Bishop; his sister, Barbara (Dennis) Long; his sister-in-law, Wilhelmina Bishop; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends whom he loved dearly. Funeral services, officiated by Rev. Dr. Mack Morris and Chaplain Mitchell Shields, will be held Monday, January 7, 2019 at 2:00 PM from the chapel of Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday from 1:00 PM until service time. Interment will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens.
