Johnnie N. Day Jr., also known as Pop, age 87, a resident of Mobile, AL. He was born in Mobile, AL, on February 14th, 1939, and went to be with his lord and savior on May 19th, 2026. John was raised in Mobile, AL, and Houston, TX. He attended Russell Elementary in Mobile, AL. Moving to Houston, TX, he attended George Washington Junior high school and graduated in 1957 from Lamar high school. He attended University of Houston and the University of South Alabama. He loved to talk to his classmates and kept in touch even 60-70 years later. They never lost touch and he instilled lifelong friendships. He was such a loving and caring person to the end. John moved back to Mobile after high school to meet the love of his life, Mary Louise (Brinkman) Day. They were married on Oct. 8th, 1960, for 65 ½ years. John worked at Brookley AFB. He was transferred back to Houston in 1963, where John worked at NASA and enjoyed his time helping our space program get to the moon. He always loved to build. He worked for the State of Alabama housing program and helped many people achieve their 1st homes. He was a lifetime member of the Community of Christ Church and was in the priesthood of his church. Pop loved his family like no other. He was a devoted husband, father, friend, and servant to his lord and savior Jesus Christ. His life was his wife Mary L. Day, son Kevin Day and Catherine Mary Day (daughter-in-law). Pop was proceeded in death by; his mother, Goldie Lee Day Andrews; his father, Johnnie N. Day Sr.; his stepfather, Nick C. Andrews; his sisters, Joan Barnes and Linda Day; and his brother, Chris Andrews. He is survived by; his loving wife, Mary L. Day; his son, Kevin (Catherine Mary) Day; his grandchildren, Matthew Clinton, Tara Thomas, John Ross Thomas III; his sisters, Gloria Anderson, Joyce Baldwin, Dr. Edna Andrews; his nieces and nephews, Melvin Wayne Jones, Shawnda Jones, Donna Rosenbaum, Terry Brinkman, Donald Brinkman, Julie Tolliver, Betty Johnson, Dale Arant, Carl Arant, Logan Murrary, Deborah Baldwin; and a host of other family and friends. Pallbearers: Melvin Wayne Jones, David Fillingham, Stephen Donivan, J.R. Williams III, Terry Brinkman, and Donald Brinkman. Honorary Pallbearers: Mannie (Sonny) Brinkman, and Harry Day. John (Pops) funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday May 30th, 2026, at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home with Dr. Larry Steiner and pastor Wayne Gibson officiating. Burial will follow at Mobile Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 10 A.M. to 11 A.M. on Saturday May 30th, 2026, at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home.
