Kay Kofinas Shaw, 81, of Mobile, AL, passed away from a lengthy illness on February 11, 2024. Born on September 3, 1942, in Mobile, Kay was the beloved daughter of the late Stanley (Steve) and Maggie Kofinas. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 50 years, Lester Smith Shaw. Kay was a devoted mother and is survived by her sons, Lester Steven Shaw and Daniel M. Shaw, her daughter, Beth Shaw Walker, and her son-in-law, Arlie Walker. She was a proud grandmother to Katie (Adam) Stone, Kirsten Walker, Justin Kennedy, and Jacob Shaw, and a cherished great-grandmother to Ada Kay Stone. Kay is also survived by her sister, Irene Helton, and sister-in-laws Harriett "Sue" Pitt and Patty Burch. Additionally, she leaves behind many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Kay had a 50 plus year career as a bookkeeper for many local businesses. She embraced a passion for art, cooking, and playing card games. She delighted in entertaining and cherished moments with family and friends. Possessing a green thumb, she found joy in caring for plants, flowers, and gardens. Her warm presence and kind heart will be profoundly missed by those fortunate enough to have known her. Kay attended St. Matthews Primary School and graduated from Bishop Toolen High School in 1960. She was a faithful member of Our Lady of Lourdes church.

Visitation is scheduled for Friday February 16 at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home from 5:00pm until 8:00pm. Funeral Service will be on Saturday, February 17 at 10:00 am at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.

  2. So sorry to hear about Kay. Her dad and mine worked together at a local shipyard, sooo I've known her since we were in grade school. We visited then many times when they lived down near St.Matthews. My condolences to Irene and all her family.
