Marvin Roland Carpenter, age 97, was born November 21, 1926, in Kiln, Mississippi, and departed this life on December 24, 2023. At the early age of 16, Marvin joined the US Coast Guard during World War II and participated in four invasions, including D-Day at Normandy. After the war, he continued to serve in the Coast Guard until he retired as a Master Chief with 26 years of service. Upon retirement, Marvin and his wife Carolyn, son, and three daughters settled in Mobile, Alabama, where he would live for the rest of his life.   Marvin was a loving and devoted husband and father and would do anything for anyone in need. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, playing cards, and spending time with family and friends. He was blessed to be a member of the Government Street Baptist Church and served for the ABBA Shriners, USCG Chief Petty Officers Association, and other social groups. Marvin's positive attitude and sense of humor touched all who knew him.   Marvin was preceded in death by his son, Marvin Edward Carpenter.   He is survived by the love of his life and wife of 65 years, Carolyn Carpenter; daughters, Patricia Smith of Brookhaven, Mississippi, Donna Schermer (Philip) of Mobile, and Susan Barter (Michael) of Fairhope; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their appreciation and gratitude to all of the caregivers and medical providers for their care and compassion during the final phase of Marvin's life.

Condolences For
"Marvin Carpenter"

  1. A great American Hero that I never got to know, however, he was also a great husband father, and grandfather to the wife and children he raised. There is little doubt that he is blessed and with God Almighty Himself. I am here because of you Marvin... Thank You Jesus.
with love and respect your eldest surviving son, Mark.
