Richard C. Whitt, age 80, born on September 4th, 1945, of Mobile, Alabama, passed away peacefully on June 2, 2026. Born and raised in Mobile, Richard lived a life marked by courage, discipline, leadership, and devotion to both his family and his country. A highly decorated United States Army Infantry veteran, Richard proudly served during the Vietnam War with extraordinary valor and sacrifice. Among his many military honors and commendations were the Bronze Star Medal with "V" Device, Purple Heart, Air Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with Bronze Star attachment and four campaign stars, Combat Infantryman Badge First Award, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Ribbon with Device (1960), Sharpshooter Badge with Rifle Bar, and Marksman Badge with Auto Rifle and Machine Gun Bars. Following his military service, Richard continued to pursue excellence in every area of life. He earned his Master's Degree in Business Management and Administration from Auburn University in 1967 and went on to build a successful career as a financial business analyst & consultant with Dun & Bradstreet. He was respected professionally for his wisdom, integrity, and work ethic. Outside of his professional accomplishments, Richard was an avid racquetball player and champion at the Mobile Racquet and Fitness Center from 1987 to 1990. He loved competition, fitness, camaraderie, motorcycles, his best pal & German Shepherd Cash and he brought the same determination to the court that he carried throughout his life. Richard was preceded in death by his father, George Whitt; his mother, Christine Mullins; and his son, Steven Whitt. He is survived by his loving wife, Melissa Whitt; stepdaughters Nikki Moorehead & Stevi Bennefield, his daughter Michele Diane Lartigue, (Paul Lartigue) and his two beloved grandsons, Jacob Carson Lartigue and Wesly Alexander Lartigue. He is also survived by his best pals, Tommy Oates, Bob Kellett, & Billy Burkowich along with extended family members and fellow veterans. Richard will be remembered as a devoted husband, a very proud patriot, a respected professional, fierce competitor, and American hero whose courage and legacy will not be forgotten.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 11, 2026, at 12:00 PM from the chapel of Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 11am until service time Thursday at the funeral home.
