Vera Earline Garlotte

October 16, 2019
Vera Earline Garlotte, 87, was born April 16, 1932 in Bogalousa, LA and died October 15, 2019 in Fairhope, AL. She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman L. Garlotte; parents, Gorman and Clara Keaton; her brothers, James and his wife, Barbara, Keaton and Gary Keaton. She is survived by her son, Michael (Donna) Garlotte; daughter, DiDi Grant; son, Charles (Cindy) Garlotte; three grandchildren, Michele, Bradley and Kolton; two great-grandchildren, Bradley and Emma; brother, Harry Keaton; sisters, Katherine Shirley and Joann (William V.) Phillips; nieces; nephews and other family members across the country. Earline was born and raised in Louisiana. She graduated from Bogalusa High School and completed office management training at Pearl River Junior College. She spent her working life as a bookkeeper and office manager. She juggled home, work and child rearing. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. She had a generous nature and enjoyed feeding the family at various gatherings and reunions. Her bounty was your bounty throughout her life. She was a great Southern cook; she once shared that her mother’s secret to great mashed potatoes was to add a little bacon grease. She was a bit shy but feisty when something was important to her. She would root for an underdog when it served a purpose she believed in. She grew up on a working farm and enjoyed sharing the antics from her brother’s and sister’s youth, such as smoking behind the barn and putting frogs in their dad’s work boots. She was a member of Woodridge Baptist Church in Mobile AL enjoying fellowship when she was able.
